It follows the love story of Marianne Daisy Edgar-Jones and Connell Paul Mescal , a young couple who are forced to overcome a series of obstacles in order to be together, including mental health needs and pressure from friends. And while most fans are desperate for Marianne and Connell to end up together, the real ending — as in life — is not that easy….

Marianne and Connell have got back together, and look to finally be able to settle into a long-term relationship, when the carpet gets whipped from under their feet. Connell is offered a place on a creative writing course in New York, which would mean leaving Marianne behind in Dublin for a year. He is deliberating over whether to take the offer, and Marianne pushes him towards it, not wanting to be the reason why he does not pursue his dreams.

She knows that this might mean Connell ends up living in New York full time, which would likely mean the end of any potential relationship. Connell eventually decides to uproot his life and move, making the emotional decision while sat with Marianne on the bedroom floor.

Of course the show is hard to take seriously and as it failed to become required cult viewing it only lasted one series, although its fun to see Riggle giving outrageous dating tips.
